Labor must stand up to the Democratic administration which has directed FBI raids and Grand Jury intimidation against socialists and solidarity activists who are also labor organizers. These raids are much more dangerous than the Tea Party but are occurring as different responses to the crisis of capitalism. The combined corporate and government assault on the working class since the end of the Vietnam War has reduced the Labor Movement to a junior partner of the Democratic Party. Labor failed to stand with the immigrants when undocumented workers rose up against government repression in 2006. Now labor is under corporate and government attack directed against our pensions. Labor must unite with immigrants and the left to build a strong working class movement. That's the only way Labor can move from it's weak defensive posture to build an offensive movement for the working class.

Some of the activists targeted are labor organizers. That is no accident. In this crisis of capitalism the US government is demonstrating that it will pull out all stops to intimidate and repress solidarity groups and anti-war groups. We know that the nazi regime in Germany didn't stop with the Jews. Millions of immigrants and Muslims have been scape goated, rounded up and deported since 9-11. We remember the Cointelpro repression directed against the Black Panther Party and Students for a Democratic Society. Once again a Democratic administration in Washington has unleashed the FBI and the Grand Jury on white organizers who challenge the fundamentally repressive actions of imperialism here and abroad . Labor must politically support those who are targeted and aid them with our resources. Labor has been under a relentless economic attack and will succomb to the heavy boot of political repression if we don't stand up now.

Unfortunately Cointelpro didn't end in the 1970s - at least not in Seattle. It was certainly alive and well in Seattle. In 1981 the FBI collaborated with Marcos agents to gun down Filipino cannery workers and union organizers Domingo and Viernes. Then they infiltrated and broke up CISPES - twice - and the Seattle chapter of ISO. And subjected white supporters of the African American Heritage Museum to intensive covert harassment. I write about all this in my recent memoir THE MOST REVOLUTIONARY ACT: MEMOIR OF AN AMERICAN REFUGEE (www.stuartbramhall.com). I presently live in exile in New Zealand.
